Album Info:Tarpon Springs just completed a perfect restoration job on this old 1919 ACL depot. An identical depot was built by the ACL just a bit further South in my hometown of Clearwater, but was torn down before I was born. It's great to have this one around. Unfortunately, it's one of only 2 left in the county, and the only one restored to its original condition.

Waiting Room
Title:  Waiting Room
Description:  The depot was built during the Jim Crow era, and the waiting room demonstrates the "seperate but equal" regulation. The waiting room is exactly today how it was when new, except the wall between the two waiting rooms was eliminated. This is the "white" waiting room.

Waiting room
Title:  Waiting room
Description:  Pictures of old Tarpon Springs line the waiting room. Some of the benches are original to the station, while others were made by a local elderly gentleman. They say he built them from memory when he would come to the station as a child. I'll be darned if I could find a difference between the new and old benches.

Title:  Station Master's office
Description:  Inside the station agent's office, looking through the two ticket windows at the two waiting rooms. Of note is the map of Hillsborough County on the wall. No mention is made of Pinellas county. Until 1912, Pinellas County was part of Hillsborough County.

The last train
Title:  The last train
Description:  When I was 8, CSX decided to abandon the line from Clearwater all the way North to Trilby. A farewell trip was run the last day from Tarpon Springs to Clearwater and back. Dad and I were on hand to take pictures and watch history a bit further down the line in Dunedin.

Station Master's desk
Title:  Station Master's desk
Description:  The original desk in the bay window overlooking the tracks. The line was pretty much downhill from here to Clearwater, and this was a great vantage point. Notice the original telephone, typewriter, and mail sack.

Freight room
Title:  Freight room
Description:  The freight room was left untouched during restoration. All "notes" on the wall are original to the station. There are the standard "No Smoking" signs, along with some "Produce only this side", but this one particular caught my eye. Really shows how the county has changed in 100 years.
